COMPOST/ING BODIES
The collection “Compost/ing Bodies” explores natural fibers, waste materials, and biomaterials such as algae, mycelium, and microgreens. It is inspired by the forests of the designer’s homeland, Transylvania, and by the traditional coat of the Romanian cioban (shepherd).A special project within the collection is a collaboration with Copenhagen-based designer H.AEKL (@h.aekl), who created a piece using leftover wool from Nordic Spaelsau sheep, integrating the wool curls into the design through spinning and knitting raw, expressive wool. The collaboration aims to grow mycelium on the knitted fabric, transforming the fibers into innovative, organic textures. This project highlights the connection between different materials and cultures. Mycelium, a fungal network, represents an innovative approach to design in which materials live and evolve. Emi’s work seeks to redefine bio-design, combining sustainability with contemporary aesthetics and collaborating with living organisms.Over the past two years, the designer has experimented with algae-based yarns, exploring colors, softness, flexibility, and textures. The “Mermaid Bag”, a design inspired by the atmosphere of the Venetian lagoon, has generated great interest—especially on TikTok, where it captured the attention of millions of people.
